Susan Izard

Susan Izard is a retired ordained minister of the United Church of Christ, who dedicated her work to spiritual life ministry. In her retirement, she devotes her time to the ministry of spiritual direction and supervision for other ministers.

Susan co-authored Knitting into the Mystery: A Guide to the Shawl-Knitting Ministry, a book that combines her love for knitting with her spiritual practice.

Granny’s Garden is Susan’s most recent publication, a creative collaboration with her sister Carroll who provided the original artwork.

Susan is working on her third book, Conversations with my Soul: A Journey to Contentment. It is a story of a trailblazer and a thinker who pushes the boundaries of self and culture, while nurturing a profound and meaningful relationship with her own soul.

As a mother and grandmother, Susan finds joy in nurturing her family and community. She enjoys gardening, baking, taking long walks with her husband and their beloved dachshund, Ollie, and reading stories to her grandchildren.

My life is a tapestry of faith, creativity, and love, woven together to inspire and uplift those around me.

An excerpt from Susan’s upcoming book, Conversations with my Soul

Listening to the breathing in the deep quiet of the moment, I experienced myself being encircled by a huge, soft, encompassing presence of stillness, breath, and light. I felt held by an enormous Holy Presence within me and beyond me. A feeling of warmth and love moved through my entire being, filling my body with peace. I became one with this sense of Holy Presence that encircled me.

I became the breath.

I became the stillness.

I became the light.

I intuitively understood that something within me was deeply connected to the Holy Presence enfolding me, and I knew my friend and I were not alone.
